Dr. Stephanie Howerter joined Martinsville Dermatology and Skin Surgery Center in October 2019.  She is board-certified in Dermatology by the American Academy of Dermatology and has completed a Fellowship in Mohs surgery.

Dr. Howerter was born and raised in southwest West Virginia. She received her undergraduate degree from Marshall University, where she graduated Magna Cum Laude. She continued her education at Marshall University to acquire a master’s degree in Biomedical Science.  Thereafter, she attended the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine to earn her medical degree with honors. While in medical school, she was awarded an academic scholarship and was inducted into both the Sigma Sigma Phi Academic and Service Fraternity as well as the esteemed Psi Sigma Alpha National Honor Society for graduating at the top of her class.

After graduating from medical school, she finished her internship at Lewis Gale Hospital Montgomery in Blacksburg, VA. She then procured a research fellowship at University of Pittsburgh Medical Center in Pittsburgh, PA with an emphasis on teledermatology. She subsequently completed her residency at Silver Falls Dermatology in Salem, OR and became board certified in dermatology by the American Board of Dermatology upon the conclusion of her residency.  Dr. Howerter also completed her fellowship training in Mohs Micrographic Surgery and Cutaneous Oncology at Silver Falls Dermatology in Salem, OR.

She has authored published articles on a variety of subjects in several dermatologic journals including the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology Case Reports, Journal of Cutaneous Medicine and Surgery, and Journal of Dermatology and Dermatologic Surgery.   Dr. Howerter is a Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology and an active member of the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery.
