David Cogburn, M.D. joined The Skin Surgery Center in August of 2017. He attended the University of North Carolina at Asheville and earned a degree with distinction in Biology. He attended East Carolina University School of Medicine and completed his dermatology residency at UAB Health System in Birmingham, AL and the North Carolina Memorial Hospital in Chapel Hill, NC.
Dr. Cogburn is Board-certified by the American Academy of Dermatology. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology, a member of the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery, and the NC Dermatology Society. He is also a member of the North American Clinical Dermatological Society. Dr. Cogburn serves as an Assistant Professor of Dermatology for the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill through the Mountain Area Health Education Center.
Dr. Cogburn established Carolina Mountain Dermatology, PA in 1986. He practices general dermatology, has a special interest in cosmetic dermatology and has been performing neurotoxins and dermal fillers since they were first introduced in the marketplace. He has trained with the top injectors in the cosmetic dermatology field including Dr. Raj Chopra, Dr. Todd Andrews, Dr. Suzanne Obagi, and Dr. Steven Mandy. He is now a featured speaker and trainer for the Allergan (Botox, Juvederm, Voluma & Kybella) and Galderma (Dysport, Restylane & Sculptra) portfolio of products. Dr. Cogburn was the first dermatologist in North Carolina to receive advanced training in Tumescent Liposuction from Dr. Jeffrey Klein, and has been performing tumescent liposuction for 20 years. Dr. Cogburn is a former appointee to the Board of Trustees of the University of North Carolina at Asheville and spent countless hours in development of the local university. He is also a former Director, Vice-Chair and Chairman of the UNC-Asheville Foundation. He is a former Director of the Board of the Bank of Asheville. He also volunteers for various dermatology and sun safety educational seminars throughout the community, as well as the Annual Skin Cancer Screening at the Asheville Mall in conjunction with Mission Hospitals.
